The Mosteiro dos Jerónimos is a former monastery located in the Belém neighborhood of Lisbon, Portugal. It was built in the early 16th century in the Manueline architectural style, which is characterized by its ornate, nautical-themed decorations. The monastery was built as a tribute to Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer who discovered the sea route from Europe to India. It is considered one of the most important examples of Manueline architecture and is one of Lisbon's most popular tourist attractions. The monastery was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 and now houses the National Museum of Archaeology.
