Christiania is the result of a hippie settlement formed in the 1970s. A place that declares itself a free state, pays no taxes, is self-governing and where soft drugs are sold and consumed.
Inhabitants build their homes from completely recycled materials. In Christiania you can find bars where you can have a beer, the cheapest in town (22 DKK = 3 euros) and made by them.
It is a very touristy and safe place (day and night), which collaborates in the organisation of many cultural activities.
